The short answer to the question of whether or not you need an Xbox 360 live subscription is no, you do not need one. But, I would highly recommend getting an Xbox 360 live subscription for reasons I will go into.
An Xbox 360 live subscription is not one of those Xbox 360 accessories that you can probably get by without. An Xbox 360 live subscription is a must have if you are all serious about getting into gaming on the Xbox 360.

The first and most important reason is for online gaming. Yes there are other things that come with your Xbox 360 live subscription, but let’s not beat around the bush here – those are all fluff when compared to the wonderful world that is online gaming through your Xbox 360 live subscription.
Microsoft has really hit a home run with this one as there are many aspects of the online gaming community found through the Xbox 360 that could make it the best around.
